Golf Between The Ears

Chapter 5: Shortcuts and Stealth Tapping

I sometimes get objections when I’m working with golfers who say, “Doc, I’m not going to tap on my face out there on the course.” But other golfers have no problem whatsoever tapping on their face out on the course. I’ve had a number of clients who will tap in public with no reservations.

I was in the San Francisco International Airport one time waiting to board a plane and the guy sitting next to me was getting really nervous. He reached in his pocket and pulled out a bottle of pills. They were tranquilizers and I could see him fumbling around with them. I asked him if he was okay and he said, “I’m really nervous; I have a fear of flying.” I explained to him that I was a psychologist and I might be able to help him with a fairly quick procedure if he was willing to do it. He said, “Yeah, I’ll try anything rather than take these pills.” So I walked him through a shortcut tapping procedure for his fear of flying just the way that we did in Chapter 3 with the demonstrations right there in the airport waiting for the plane. There were people walking by and looking at us, but he was not the least bit concerned what anybody thought about him sitting there tapping on his face. I’ve had many other clients who would tap in public with no concern.
