Golf Between The Ears

Chapter 7: EFT Choices

EFT can be augmented by using positive affirmations. Affirmations are positive statements of something that you want to occur or to be true. By adding affirmations to the end of an EFT treatment you can supercharge your affirmations. EFT will clear any negative blocks to the affirmation allowing it to work much more effectively. The two make a potent combination.

Affirmation Problems

An affirmation is a positive statement or declaration made confidently without need for proof or evidence. But most affirmations are really saying something that’s not true. For example, if you weigh 200 pounds and you want to weigh 180, an appropriate affirmation, according to the way most books say you should do it, will state that it is a fact that you weigh 180 right now. You would repeatedly say, “I weigh 180.” That would be a positive, present tense affirmation. But it’s not true; you weigh 200! It’s as if you are trying to sneak one over on your subconscious mind and trick it into believing the affirmation. But your subconscious mind is saying, “Who are you trying to kid? You weigh 200. You’ll never weigh 180.” And it will come up with all the reasons why. “Nobody in your family is slim, you’ve always been fat; you’ll always be fat,” and so forth. A golf example is saying, “I’m a great putter” when you’ve got the yips. We can get into a tug-of-war between our conscious desire stated in the affirmative and our subconscious mind. The subconscious usually wins these battles.
